Saturday 28 March at 10.03 in the morning, and again Sunday 29 March at 21.03 in the evening, NRK Radio (P2) will air a documentary about paperless refugees in Norway. The documentary is called "Report from the Shadow Country". For further information, see NRK's web page. |

The Government has decided that the cases of approximately 300 Kurds - the so called MUF cases - should be re-considered. The specific criteria are yet to be worked out. Borderland welcomes this measure as a humane effort to bring ten years of chaos and suffering to an end, and strongly hope this will resolve the situation for a group of asylum seekers who for so long have sought nothing else than safety and respect.

I am afraid I have a fear unknown to you outside and which hopefully will remain unknown to you. The fear lives within my stomach, my head, my feet and my hands. My hands tremble and are wet and cold like my grandmother’s hands when she died.

Rune Berglund Steen in Borderland states that the Norwegian Governments' difficulties in deporting rejected asylum seekers to a large part are of their own making: "Of course they will have a problem when they are increasingly rejecting asylum seekers from war zones and totalitarian states such as Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq and Eritrea, especially asylum seekers who according to the UN and Amnesty are in need of protection. Lier ventemottak has become a gathering place for sad destinies."
