Utlendingsnemnda has granted protection to 50 families from Somalia and Eritrea because of the risk of forced gender mutilation of the young girls in these families. Borderland reacts to Aftenposten's coverage of this issue, further highlighting the need to place the concern for the young girls at the centre of the debate.

Four of the restrictive measures launched by the Government last autumn will be active from 1 May. This includes the measure to put unaccompanied minors aged 15 1/2 and above on hold, and deport them to their country of origin as soon as they turn 18. Borderland deplores the Government's decision to carry out this and other measures that will seriously reduce the rights of asylum seekers coming to Norway.

Borderland's first fact book is about Lier ventemottak, which was established in March 2006 to offer basic accommodation to asylum seekers with a final negative decision. Three years later, it remains controversial. Read the fact book about Lier ventemottak here.

The Government has decided that unaccompanied children down to the age of 15 1/2 can be put on hold and deported to their country of origin as soon as they turn 18. This could apply to 100 children each year. In an open letter to Norway's Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, Borderland appeals to the Government to stop this extreme and unnecessary measure.

We don’t have Internet up to now. The food was better but they served one soup spoon of rice per person. Many people went to ask for more but were denied. The situation is like funeral place in Africa.
