The Norwegian Government has decided to introduce a more restrictive practice towards asylum seekers from Chechnya. Ethnic Chechens may now be forcefully deported to Chechnya.

 The Government’s restrictive asylum agenda is being carried out. At the same time, 2009 is an election year, and asylum politics will again be a hot topic for debate.
19 - 24 June there will be a camp with concerts, asylum academy, workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions, political debates, movies, literature - and Afghan kites! All participation is free.

The Government has changed the Aliens Regulation (Utlendingsforskriften) in a way that will cancel out the positive decision reached by "stornemnda" on Afghan asylum seekers. This will again lead to a more restrictive practice for Afghan asylum seekers and others, in clear violation of UNHCR recommendations and guidelines. For the first time, a breach with the UNHCR has become part of Norwegian law.
